| This was the 1st Patio Home project we built. We won our 1st of
our 2 National
Awards on this project. We were featured in the PUD
(Plan Unit Development) Magazine. The picture in the magazine
article is of the model home. The
section of Evelyn across the street was zoned Heavy Industrial. The
City of Sunnyvale had no faith in the concept of the Patio Homes.
When the project was approved on a 4 to 3 vote, one on the City Council
member stated, "Well we have just
created an instant slum in Sunnyvale".
When we were building these patio homes, there was an outdoor movie theater
located across the street on Evelyn. It was owned by Raymond J. Syufy.
Syufy developed the Century Theaters. When we were in the process of
building these house, Syufy expanded his drive in from 1 screen to 3
screens. For a time, you could watch movies from our houses.
The reason for this was because the trees they had planted as screening for
the new screens, were too small to hide the screens. For more information, we have dedicated a special
section of our web site to the facts
and history of Bahl Patio Homes. Here is a
Reed & Evelyn Patio Home that we listed and Sold. |
